Happy Birthday Singapore

It’s National Day!

Today is Singapore’s 45th Birthday, and they have quite the party planned.  Parade, Fireworks, and an extravaganza show, all along the theme of “Live our Dreams, Fly our Flag.”  They even built a new stadium for the festivities around this theme.

For the past month, streets around this arena have been closed on Saturdays so that parade participants can practice.  Around sunset on these weekends, we’ve been treated to F-16 flyovers.  Singapore takes National Day very seriously.  The National Day Parade and festivities are broadcast live, so if you’re not in the mood to sit around/stand in the direct sunlight and heat of an August day in Singapore, you can watch them from the air conditioned comfort of your living room.

This is the first of 14 videos showing last year’s parade (as broadcast on a local tv channel).

However, we will miss it.  Ravi, Suchita, Amit, B, Elanor and myself are getting on a plane early in the morning and heading to Phuket, Thailand.  I’m fine with either watching it on youtube after we’re back or just catching it next year.  I’m writing posts for the week in advance so that I can get through some material, and in case my internet connection there sucks.
