Quite possibly the best mall in Singapore?

Yesterday I went to Serangoon Nexx for the first time.  Today I had to go back (to exchange an item).  In those two visits, I’ve come to the conclusion that it may be the best mall in Singapore for a family.

It has

  • A branch of the Public Library
  • A movie theater
  • Arcade
  • Disney Store
  • Build a Bear
  • A 24 Hour Fair Price Extra
  • A Cold Storage (for the stuff Fair Price doesn’t have)
  • Almost every American food chain in Singapore
  • Sit down restaurants
  • Asian options
  • A pet store to buy the kitten’s food at
  • AND quite possibly the second best water play area in all of Singapore (second only to the Singapore Zoo water play area, and possibly better as it’s less crowded).

I had no idea there was a waterpark, so we sent her into play in just a regular diaper.

As you can see there is stuff that sprays, stuff that dumps, stuff like sprinklers, and then there’s a giant bucket that dumps down every 3-5 minutes.  The kids go nuts for it.

Personally, after several bad encounters with older children at the zoo recently, I was a bit worried when some older kids came and began playing, especially when E decided she wanted to tag along.  But they were actually fabulous with her (I made a point of saying “thank you for playing so nicely with her” when we left), encouraging her to chase around with them and sit to wait for the water dump.  They laughed at her fearlessness, and treated her like one of them.  It was really heartening for me to see, because if there is one thing that Ellie desperately wants…it’s to play with the bigger kids.  She doesn’t really get that she’s only 2 1/2, and not six or eight.

For dog lovers, next to the water play area there are two dog play parks; one for small dogs and one for larger dogs.  There’s also the doggiestyle cafe, where owners and dogs can stop and get a bite together. (sorry, bad pun…had to do it)

I think they could have come up with a better graphic design, though.

Dogs are also welcome to stroll with their owners in the pet store.

This is the kind of mall where you could easily spend a day.  Go to the library, catch a movie while your kid takes a ballet class or gets some math tutoring, drop by Fair Price for some snacks, and let the little ones play at the water park.

It’s a brilliant mall, and super easy to get to.  It’s directly above/next to the Serangoon stop on the MRT, about 10 or so buses stop in front and there’s a cab stand (of course).  I think we’ve found a better option than VivoCity..the only 2 things Vivo has over Serangoon Nexx is the Toys R Us and the GAP.  In the meantime, we (especially E) can’t wait to shop there again.

Sounds good! Unfortunately it really is way too far out of the way for me to usually go to. But will check it out if I can!

I used to live close to there, before they built it. I haven’t been since the first week it opened, but yeah it’s fab!!

I’m kind of sad that it’s a bit too far out of the way for us to consider that area when our lease is up. I think I’d love living over that way.

I’m really excited to read this as the shopping centre is in the area we are looking at to rent a property 🙂 My girls will love the water park.

They absolutely will! Sadly when we need to look for our next place it’s a bit too far out from where R works for us to consider 😦

Great review Crystal. The only downer is that it gets soo crowded. I think it’s because it’s got so much to offer like Vivo, another mall that gives you loads of choices.

I do like all the American Fast Food outlets though. Which do you like the best? For me it’s Carl’s Junior.

I’m generally a McDonald’s girl. Carl’s Jr is growing on me…we didn’t have them in MA, but I’d been while in California (or somewhere)

I wish I could take my dogs there but getting them around without a car is hard. LOLz at the name of the cafe. Doggiestyle? Really?

    • Crystal says:

I was thinking of you guys when I saw the dog park, but that makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, doggiestyle cafe makes me cringe. I first heard of it from Tiny Island’s blog, though–she gets full credit for finding it first.
