Back in Singapore Safely

Longer post later…but we are home in Singapore.

Funny how (and this isn’t just relief at being done traveling) it actually is that we’re HOME.  Which is not to say that I wouldn’t want to move back to the US, blah blah blah….but it is home.  And I’m happy to be here.

I generally wince at the slap of heat and humidity that accompanies a de-planing in Southeast Asia.  In Singapore, on this particular trip (and maybe this is the almost non-stop nausea every moment we were on the planes–not motion sick, but my pregnant nose was unhappy with the strong smells and small contained space where I couldn’t escape them) the humidity and heat when I stepped off the plane felt like a hug.  No more jackets.  No more pants.  No more having to keep Elanor’s shoes and socks on.  Of course I haven’t experienced the joyous 99 degree weather Singapore enjoyed while I was gone, so this may be a short lived love affair with the heat/humidity.

While it wasn’t fun to keep the kittens from exploring beyond our apartment (which they found far more exciting a prospect than Elanor’s and my return) it was so nice to see them.

Elanor was delighted that her toys were still here, and spent a fairly manic two hours (or more, I gave up and went to bed at 1:30/2am) determined to play with EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.  She was also psyched to see her dad and B, and deserted her dad’s lap for B’s in the taxi.  As I reminded Ravi; she’d seen him a week ago…it had been three since she’d seen her YaYa (auntie).

I can honestly say that laying down (anywhere, really) after 30 hours of travel and a restless night before that (and the two before that thanks to Elanor’s last minute ear infection) in YOUR OWN BED is truly one of the best sensations in the world.

I would’ve liked more than six hours of sleep (I woke up to Elanor ranting in her room and dispatched Ravi to deal with it as he was already awake for work) but jet lag was never going to let that happen anyway.

At the moment I’ve even feeling less than murderous towards the construction sounds next door (which I’m sure will pass within 24 hours).

Pictures, stories, and more posts to follow.  Posting may be on the lighter side this week as we are hosting our first friend from home here in Singapore(!!!), but I will be posting.  I also want to catch up on the comment in the Singapore Election posts, but that will take a functional brain, and I’m not there yet.
