When I was growing up, the books were called “Where’s Waldo.”
Today, at a book sale I saw the following…
Did his name change in the last 20 years? Is it a US vs Euro/Asia thing (like color versus colour)? I genuinely want to know.
EDITED TO ADD–Thanks to Zach, who sent me the Wikipedia link, I can tell you that it’s only Waldo in the US and Canada, but he’s also known by other names (source) Thanks also go out to everyone who helped teach me a new fun factoid 🙂

It was always Where’s Wally when I was a kid.
this seems to be the consensus. Which makes me wonder why the US and Canada had such an issue with where’s wally and changed his name.
It looks like the US and Canada are the only places where it has ever been called “Where’s Waldo?”

I love that you sent the link and that wikipedia has an article on this topic. The internet rocks.
It’s always been Where’s Wally in New Zealand.
Thanks!
never read this book…think it was after my time…but I recall both Wally and Waldo 🙂
I should make a point of going to a bigger bookstore (like Kinokuniya) to see if they have both…that would be fun
It’s always been “Where’s Wally?” in Australia.
I have a feeling this tidbit of knowledge will eventually help me win a trivial pursuit game 🙂
