MOM auto-response to my letter

For those who are interested, I wanted to post the form response I got to my email regarding a mandatory weekly day off for FDW’s.

Dear Mrs. Crystal,

Thank you for your feedback dated  29 June 2011.

MOM is currently studying the suggestion for the Government to legislate a weekly rest day for FDWs, with compensation in-lieu when the FDW and employer mutually agree that the rest day be foregone.

We will need to consult with all stakeholders, including employers, employment agencies, domestic workers and non-governmental organizations and MOM would like to reassure employers that all views and feedbacks would be considered.

Furthermore, should there be any changes, sufficient notice will be provided. We also welcome members of the public to email their views and suggestions to

Thank you again for your feedback.

Yours sincerely,

Customer Service Executive

sounds like such a standard typical governmental reply….think I’m losing faith in the system. Well I guess I should be glad they responded to you.

    • Crystal says:

I’m mostly glad I didn’t get a “stay out Singapore affairs, you foreign devil” reply

  2. Dawn says:

Mrs. Crystal? Is that customary in Singapore, Mrs. plus first name?

    • Crystal says:

To an extent. The largest ethnic group is Chinese and their name structure is family name first, individual name second/last. So some people just aren’t sure which is my last name. In other cases, it’s a formality thing…you don’t address strangers without an honorific. That it doesn’t phase me anymore is actually kind of surprising 🙂

Foreign devils want to know: what does MOM stand for?
