Wordless Wednesday–UK Trip 2009

We spent 3 weeks in the UK in 2009 during which Elanor turned 10 months old.  We spent just over half of it based out of Edinburgh, where Ravi was attending a conference.  We did a family trip to Glasgow.  I surprised myself by finding the courage to rent a car (and a car seat) and to drive up to Loch Ness and Inverness (stopping at Loch Lomond and Culloden battle field) with just Ellie for company one day.  It was my first time driving on the opposite side of the road (and yes, I kept getting into the passenger seat and wondering where the steering wheel was–if we ever were to get a car in Singapore, I’d have the same trouble at first).  After a few weeks, when the conference had wrapped up, we took Ellie on her first trip to London (my second, Ravi’s lost track of how many times he’s been there trip).  I made the following video to summarize our trip.

Loved the video! My stepsons live near Aberdeen so we spend a lot of time up that way when back in the UK and I worked in London for nine years and lived there for some of that time too so I never tire of seeing it. Thanks for sharing.

    Scotland!….I wanna go 🙂

Loved how you shrugged in the video after not spotting the monster….cute!

And Ellie was just a wee baby then. She was so brave near the huge bull.

Scotland was beautiful. I really enjoyed it there, and would definitely go back, although I’d really like to see Wales or Ireland, neither of which I’ve been to, and other parts of England besides London (although London is one of my favorite cities in the world, if not my absolute favorite).

I’ve only been to London..many years ago. But I long to see the English countryside one day. The part that awed me the most about London was my first time in a proper museum and the spooky Royal Tower. Wish I had known more of the history back then.

I’ve been an Anglophile my whole life and I’ve dreamt of going there ever since I was a kid. Although, back then I was picturing the London of “A Little Princess” by Frances Hodgson Burnett (a favorite childhood read) and other historical fiction. Lucky for me, Ravi is equally in love with London.

My first trip there was in 06 for our honeymoon (I didn’t even have to think about where I wanted to go–London and Paris were tied for first place so we did both) and I was so happy to take E in 09. Wonder when Rhiannon’s first trip will be?

It’s one of those cities where you can just keep going and never do the same thing twice and STILL have so much to see. We still haven’t made St. Paul’s, a Shakespearean play, and so many things I still want to do!
