During my vacation, I was nominated for a Liebster Blog Award by Singapore Actually. Singapore Actually is one of my can’t miss bloggers. A local Singaporean, she is constantly motivating me to get out and see more of Singapore because of her gorgeous photography and her amazing eye for details. Sometimes she visits a place I go to constantly and points out something I’ve never stopped to see. She has been invaluable in helping me understand the confusing aspects of life in Singapore and adds nuance to my understanding. If you don’t read her, you should.
Here are the rules for the award:
This award is given to bloggers with less than 200 followers who deserve more recognition. (Donno if I really kept to this rule though)
Here are the rules for the award and I look forward to reading about whom you will nominate. In German Liebster means dearest or favourite and this is the best sort of chain post:
Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog.
Link back to the blogger who awarded you.
Give your top 5 picks for the award.
Inform your top 5 by leaving a comment on their blog.
Post the award on your blog.
Five Bloggers I would love to nominate (although I don’t know their follower count) are…
1-The Dot Diaries. Claire is a new arrival to Singapore from London. I really enjoy her posts and her pictures (check out her CNY post for some truly gorgeous photos, particularly of the dragon in Chinatown at Night). We’ve hung out a few times, and I hope to get to know her better via her writing and in person.
2-WTF Mate I can’t skip mentioning my fellow expat Bostonian, Kate. I haven’t had the chance to meet her in person yet, but I love reading her blog and chatting with her on Twitter. She’s in Singapore by way of Australia, which gives her a very different kind of expat experience from mine (a 2nd posting as opposed to the first time out of country), and I find encouragement in her posts while we still share a hometown.
3-Red Shoe Arts Aimee is a dear friend of mine, and her son CJ is Ellie’s “best friend” (she actually has a picture of him on her wall that she likes to say good night to at bedtime!). She’s also an amazing artist, and art teacher. I am inspired to do new projects by her blog, and she gives me the courage to try art again after a lifetime of thinking that I was rubbish at art.
4-Funny Little World Kirsten is a good friend in real life and not just in the blogosphere. She is funny, wise beyond her 24 years, and never fails to get me to think. Her blog is incredibly well written–I often read it and wish I could write half as well. Whether she’s discussing the end of Bukit Brown cemetery or how she and her dad are foodies, I always enjoy reading what she has to say.
5-Mummy in Provence Whether it’s her series on having a baby abroad (with contributions from tons of countries, including me about my experience of giving birth in Singapore) or her own ruminations about raising her BiP (baby in provence), this expat is always an enjoyable read.
I hope you check out the links and find at least one new blog to read!
Thanks again, Singapore Actually!
